Jon, the Sacramento area should be fairly comfortable starting this time of year, a month earlier and you would have been in triple digits with lots of humidity. Wait, you’re from Tennessee, so it would have seemed like home to you. The actual area is nice, and hopefully the next time I’m up there I’ll have either my Linear or Jetstream with me, I’ve seen part of the trail when I’ve been driving up there.

The Lompoc area is gorgeous. I’ve ridden my DF bikes in that area and the Solvang area, never again will I do that much riding on a DF. In fact while I was camping in Sequoia National Forest in August/September, I had both my bents and my DF mountain bike. I rode my DF about 200 feet and realized why I preferred riding my bents.

hi Jon, Hows the ride goin?
I left my bents in Ahia, so am having to ride my MTB every where i go.My back is so shot i haven't noticed the diff yet.
By the way I hope you are planing on driving down to Lompoc if you go. Lompoc aint even close to Folsum or Sacramento.
Would be a great side trip to run down there by car tho and check out that bent place.
Then you can do the 101 back up to the Bay area. On a bent, NOW that was a nice ride. :jiggy9:

Well I rode a "pain" machine in the form of a hybrid bike. Rode a little over 50 miles from Folsom to the outskirts of Sacramento.

I will write a complete story with lots of pictures next week when I am back in Knoxville.

    A quick summary.

    Weather - perfect
    Trail - ideal
    Scenery - Pretty
Number of DF riders ~ 300
    Number of recumbents = 5
Would I recommend the trail - YES!!!
    Number of ibuprofen I took = 6
Number of minutes I had to soak in the tub at the hotel = 30 minutes

Details and pictures next week! (But don't expect a doctorial thesis like Dave does. No one can write up a better ride report complete with pictures and details of the trails.) However I did bring my GPS so I will post the map of the trip also.

    Stay tuned.

Day 2 - I had corporate meeting all day today in Sacramento CA today. It is sooo much fun sitting all day in meetings when your butt is blazing sore!!!!

Tomorrow it gets better. I have to get up at 4:00 AM go get my flight and then I sit on a plane for most of the day!!!!

If anyone want to know why I ride a recumbent bike, just read what I have been talking about!!!!!

Why did I do this to myself!!!!

    Hi Jon,

You did about 49 ½ miles further than I did when I got on my full suspension mountain bike this summer. I rode around the camp a couple of times following one of my friends checking out the ride on my modified Linear. Since my wife doesn’t like recumbents because they “look funny”, unless she wants to ride the mountain bike, I doubt I’ll put it on my truck anymore. For me, the seat wasn’t comfortable, and I felt like I was about to go over the handlebars, which is pretty sad when you consider my street bike is a SWB w/USS where I am over the handlebars.

I have ridden the mountain bike twice since then, once to get it to the truck when packing up and the second riding it to the storage shed when I got home.

I hope your bruises heal quickly!

I concede the title to Mr. Sullivan. His report on his recent Erie Canal Trail trip, found at
    http://www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/CTEC
eclipses anything I've seen from anyone on our forum.
