    If you are considering a Longbikes Slipstream or other long wheelbase recumbent bike (Tour Easy, Stratus)- CHECK THIS OUT. The Slipstream is considered the Cadillac of long wheelbase, under seat steering, recumbents. This one has 12K miles on the frame but everything that wears out is BRAND NEW.

    New parts include, wheels, hubs, tires, chain, brake pads and rotors, rear cassette and derailleur, cables, and hand grips. Extras include, fenders, rear rack, computer mount, light mount, kickstand, Teracycle idler, and custom powder coat.

    New this would set you back $3,915, plus whatever taxes and shipping were required. Get it from me, good as new, for $2,800. Then hop on and ride across the country.

    Hi Dave,

    Yes, my Slipstream is still available. I got the Slipstream in 2007. It was my second bent (the first a RANS Vivo - SWB, ***, 20/20) and I wanted a comfortable, durable, low maintenance bike for touring. It was originally set up with a Rohloff hub. A several years ago I started doing more riding with my partner (she rides a Haluzak, SWB, USS) and we found ourselves transporting the bikes quite a bit. It’s hard to find any rack that will take two USS ‘bents and although I could get them both on the rack I couldn’t get the Slipstream centered. One way or another something was always sticking out about a foot on one side or the other of the van. Rather than getting a bigger van I opted for a smaller bike. So summer of 2014 I ordered up a Longbikes Eliminator and took delivery in September 2014. As part of the new build I had Greg Peek (Mr. Longbikes) put the Rohloff on the Eliminator and set up the Slipstream with the standard drive train. That’s how all those new parts got on the bike. I should point out that the front derailleur isn’t new, just barely used. With the Rohloff I’d just stay on my small chainring until I wanted the top gear (rarely) and usually drop back down pretty soon. (I don’t even have a front derailleur on the Eliminator).

    So my main bike now is the Longbikes Eliminator and I currently have 2K on it. In all respects save one, I still prefer the Slipstream. The Slipstream seat is just a bit lower making it easier (downright comfortable) to take a rest with both feet on the ground. It’s also very stable, I’ve heard the term land-louge but that’s not quite right because it’s more stable on rough roads at 3MPH too. Anyway if you’ve never experienced a quick downhill coast on a LWB ‘bent you’re in for a treat. I had thought that the tighter turning radius of Eliminator would make it better bike for the steep rough stuff I sometimes ride but that seems to be negated by front wheel heel strikes. The one deal breaking preference for the Eliminator is the transportability. Not that the Slipstream was all that difficult to transport, it even fit in my Honda Civic with the seat off (easy) and the Civic passenger seat folded.
