I stopped by your new shop today but no one was home. :sad9: I wanted to see it. I did look in the windows.

Rode the ride I advertised yesterday but all by myself. :sad9: Beautiful day. And no flats!

I did experience one problem that was new to me. When I got up to speed and coasted, I felt a bump... bump... bump in my back tire. I got off and spun it. There was a slight bulge in the tire right where the valve stem was. I inflated my Kenda tires to 110 pounds. I let air out (didn't have a gauge so I don't know how much) and rode the rest of the trip fine. The bumping disappeared.

Anyone know what is going on with my tire???

I have new Contiental Gatorskins tires coming so these tire will be retire soon. And hopefully all my tube and tire problems will go away too!

    Kenda

Hey, R-man, my Sofrider was equipped with Kendas.
Not your model or size, but Kendas nonetheless.
The tire on the driven wheel wore out and it was (ahem) retired.
The tire on the non-drive wheel went thump-thump-thump for a few days
    like yours is doing.
I ordered a set of new Nashbar slicks, not that that means anything,
but I really wanted something on the wheels other than Kenda.

The new tires arrived just after the old Kenda blew up.
It suffered catastrophic failure of the fabric which holds the sidewall
    rubber together.

    Your tire is toast.

    ----

My ride yesterday turned into a fun workout.
My new-to-me road bike -the old Sofrider is living out it's old age on the trainer-
is getting more familiar as it gets dialed in.
A lot of adjusting and fiddling has been going on.
    What happened?
The cable to the rear derailleur snapped a wire which then wrapped itself
around the cable and, effectively transformed the twenty speed bike into
    a two speed.
I had my choice of either 52 tooth big ring or 30-something little ring.
I rode a single-speed home, on the hilly TN country roads.
It was fun... but what a workout.

The good news is, the new cable shifts like butter.

    Bikes are fun!

Agree with Steve. May be coincidental that was near valve stem, but tire is either worn out & too thin for the pressure, or broken within the matrix. Either way, you did the right thing in reducing pressure but should trash the tire immediately. It's an accident waiting to happen in the blink of an eye.

What time did you go by? Remember, the shop doesn't open until 10am. Josh probably wasn't there yet.

I left one of my business cards. I wrote the time and date on it. I am pretty sure it was after 10 AM. Oh well!

Here are some pictures from my last ride. I started early (around 8:30 AM) and the clouds and SUN were very dramatic over the Smoky Mountains. Looks like it is going to rain, but forecast said it would clear up and they were correct for a change!!!

Going up to Tremont is such a treat. It is a 1 1/2 mile slow uphill ride tagging along this stream. But coasting back down is a blast and the scenery can't be beat!!

One thing I love about East Tennessee is that it is green. The Smokys are filled with lots of streams. Here is my "Precious" on a bridge going into Tremont.

To the rest of you Bacchetta riders, this set up should look familiar except for my handlebar set up which I personally LOVE!!!

looks like you had great ride! Beautiful pictures. As for Josh, Willie G is going to have a chat with him. Apparently he closed down on two days last week and left early on another. Even though we had folks coming in for specific reasons...lost a lot of sales and rentals.:mad9:

    Fun in the Sun

This morning was going to be spent climbing in the hilly route,
    so I turned West.
One hundred yards later, a recumbent passed me, heading East.

No hillclimbing -well, comparatively little- was done this morning.

I caught the recumbent at the stop sign.
It was a beautiful blue Bacchetta Ca 2.0, ridden by an old dude like me.

The Bacchetta did not have a blinky rear light and was kind of dark really,
so I tailed him because my bike is bright with the blinky rear light.
He was pedaling smoothly and steadily at 20mph... I had to coast a lot to stay behind him.

When we reached the first little hill, the overpass, I knew he'd slow down
and he did. I whipped around, waved good by and spun up to do my
    flat road workout.

I passed three upright bikes too, but that's not hardly worth mentioning.

The highest speed was 25mph; the average was 18.4mph.
I have no idea how fast the Bacchetta was today... just slower than my workout.

    Just obsolete service hired

I don't know what he plans to do. All I know is that he couldn't/wouldn't wait until after hours to go see/hang out with his friends. He had just had to do it. But then he has always been that way, his friends always come first, even at the expense of family and/or his job. The only reason he did it this time is because he "knew" he wouldn't get fired. I have a bad feeling...

and most times my intuition has always been right.

    Cooler Weather

    And Sun!

    What a nice little ride:
all the roadies going the other way waved 'hi.'
Is it the beautiful weather? My silly-looking full-face BMX helmet?
Who cares: their smiles were lovely.

    Uh-Oh.

Cars bad; so sorry an apparently driverless one smashed it's way into your life.
Remember, please, it was no accident, it was a crash.

I feel your pain and have the scars to prove it.
