Thanks. If you are only doing short rides, you are going to be one tough cookie to keep up with!

just got in 21 km in the rain....
I was hoping to keep up with B1keBox but but he's powering on through what I expect is an aweful winter, and I'm enjoying glorious weather [ except a little rain today].

4 minutes from home, this bike path leads to the main road:

Rode yesterday afternoon cold and windy 42 degrees when I started with 10-12 mph sustained winds. I took out my trust winter steed (the Venom) and headed over to do some hill climbing. Finished with 11.9 miles and over 900 feet of elevation gain. No speed records for sure with a 12.8 moving average.

That Venom sounds interesting [ will check to see if you have pic on BikeJournal]
I woke up late - holiday pressures :smile9: - so only had time for 25 km [ 15miles] . Lots of riders out on the bikeway, I uped the pace of course and got up to 24.1 km/h av. . [ 14.9 mph ] Hopefully I can break that 15mph real soon.

I looked for your Venom, Have you got a picture somewhere? So you have the Windwrap XT fairing - that should be a lot better in the wind. Does it also help with keeping you a little warmer as well?

I live your idea of sharing photos and/or videos of your rides Glen and hope others do the same. Pictures add so much to the words and brings it all a bit closer.

This is a little taste of my local riding, Riverside Road in Fremantle which is a part of a popular route for cyclists riding around the Swan River.

On the theme of shared paths, this is an older video taken when riding one of my diamond frames on my summer commute to work. The ride home is quite a different experience but: same route but now with the infamous Fremantle Doctor to ride into. Further north on my commute than shown in the video the wind is often gusting well above 50 km/h (30 mph +). It does drop off as I get closer to home (around the 35 km (22 miles) mark) but by then the damage is done :)

    Regards
    Andrew

I had to visit my local bike shop so thought I would turn it into a longer ride, well its Australia Day tomorrow and lets just say that it brings out the "inner bogan" in one to many people. My ride lasted six kilometres; I decided it was safer to stay on the couch. One failure to give way in a roundabout, one failure to give way turning right (equivalent to a left turn in the US) and one mouthful of abuse did it for me.

Hopefully your days riding was much better.

Had to look up the term "bogan." Apparently Australian & New Zealand use, I like it and will apply it locally in east Tennessee. Among other definitions, "One whose speech, attitude, and behavior exemplifies a lack of manners..." Never realized that in all my pedaling years on the roads I've been surrounded by bogans.

But in another context it can mean "someone proudly unfashionable or rough around the edges." That's me, so I guess bogan is the new redneck.

Ward - that is a Really Great Looking Trike.

Andrew - I love your riding routes, was thinking " whats different about your riding ? " .... Oh yeah , hardly any hills.
BUT I do not envy the traffic whizzing by , I tend to keep to the bike ways to keep well away from the Bogans.!!!!
[ the HORROR statistics : 2013 48 cyclists killed in Aust , 9500 seriously injured. my state NSW is the worst 14 killed. Australias population 23 million total ]
[ many killed when cyclist riding along road in normal safe manner ]

The problem for me is the trike & I arent too good for hills and all around my area are hills.
So I am working out how to change to 2 wheels,
Today I only had an hour to rip up some kilometres [ miles ] , rode back and forth on the least hilly stretch of the cycleway [ so only 8 small hills per lap ] and set 25.5 km/h Average speed [ 15.8 mph ].
Is a one hour average speed noteable or is that too short to count ??

they cage the cyclists .... because we had a spate of fools throwing rocks from bridges:rolleyes9:
I am the only cyclist that rides a Bent on this cycleway [ hoping that will change as more people see me :wink9: ]
Here is a path leading onto cycleway

Just check out the lights along this cycleway - I suspect they were aiming for World's Best :smile9: , it certainly is a great cycleway.!
