    Correct me if I'm wrong

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I recall a back injury when a Carbent went
out from under Ward. Take care Ward and never get too proud to have
    fun.

Anyway, I would ride a DF if I could stand up like I did way back before
knee surgery. A DF is efficient and moves well with young legs. Yes they
are dangerous. I've crashed riding bents and DF's and will avoid doing
that again. Fact is, I've earned the right to enjoy trikes and power assist
    as needed/wanted.

"Rubbing it in" nowadays usually means using some sort of messy joint pain relief cream. Can't fault anybody from doing what they enjoy. For myself, if pain will be the result, I probably won't do it. I am highly allergic to pain.

A couple of my friends have been off cycle camping for the last week and are currently in the East of England. I haven't been camping since I was 18 (more than 30 years ago, but bit the bullet bought some gear and drove up to join them for two nights, with kit and trike in the car. All in all it wasn't anywhere near as bad as I expected we had a great couple of evenings and a lovely 60+ mile ride through the Norfolk countryside. I didn't take a camera so knocked off a few shots on the I-phone. As you'll see from the last photo I did have some after ride comforts !

Sure this will be the start of more trips as I quite enjoyed it. Just need to work out how to cut down all the gear to get on a trike or B2. They both use bike trailers which is one idea I guess.

Yep Buddy, there has been a long list of cycling injuries from pushing the limits too far. One day. Aye I will learn. The Elf is great, I plan on a Velo one day in the future as well. That looks very weatherproof, have you been out in the rain or snow with her yet?

Dave, I find myself rubbing in various ointments pretty frequently as well.

Back is settling down, think I will be out this week for sure.

I'm glad your back is doing well. I'll be watching you on the Journal.
Yes I've ridden the ELF in rain and it's fun and dry. Plan to ride it all
winter. I have side curtains for storms that I may get caught in. Hope
you get a velo to enjoy. I'm sure you would like power assist. The ELF
is heavy and the assist levels the playing field. I still get exercise and
enjoy the ride again. Be careful out there and enjoy.

    Looked like a lovely trip!

Trailers are handy if you have the legs to get them up the hills. I have one. Now I just need to get the legs. :tongue9:

Wow! East Tennessee is having a mild  summer. A cool front went through yesterday and today it was 71 degrees at 11:00 am when I started riding. Sunny, clear skies with a light breeze. And this is supposed to be our hottest month??? :o_O9: I had to go for a ride!!!

Anyway, I am riding my loop ride and minding my own business. I ride just over 20 miles (20.1 to be exact) in 6 loops. The first and last loop I go easy so I have a nice warm up and cool down.

So why is it all the rabbits come out to play on my supposed "cool down" lap? :idunno: As I was getting close to rounding the end of the loop, I spotted someone getting on their bike. I recognized her. She is a triathlete. And she can pump pedals on her bicycle. I see her start and off she goes. Well I can't have that happen. :nono:

I down shifted, rounded the end and hit the pedals. Caught up to her in about 1/3 of a mile then just stayed behind her. When she realized she was being followed she picked up her pace from 14 - 18 mph to between 18 - 21 mph. That is hoofing it in my book. Stayed behind for first 2/3rds of the loop then pulled out and passed. I told her I loved her pace and she thanked me. Then I hit 25 mph and left her.

My heart rate was 165 after my crank up. (I normally I am between 120 - 140). My alarm was going off letting me know this old man is going to kill himself if he kept up that pace. If my GPS was connected to my phone, I am sure it would be calling 911 for an "imminent heart attack"! So I slowed down, made the last turn and pedaled slowly up and into the parking lot. I almost killed myself trying to polish my "male pride" award. But it is sure shiny right now!!!

The moral of the story is "Greyhound brain" can get you killed!!!

Ward are there any antidotes for this? I think you infected me!!! :o_O9:

It was a great ride until halfway into my ride when a pack of professionals (want to be Tour de France podium guys) were racing up a 16 ft. wide pedestrian bridge (Two Rivers Park Bridge) as I was coming down. They were bunched up through the curve racing up the bridge when they ran up on a couple, the woman pushing a baby carriage, in their lane so they decided to take my lane which I moved against the bridge wall to allow these said professionals to go by. Who was I to get in their way maybe costing them a podium spot? But there were two mountain bikes behind me so when they started to pass the couple seeing me and the two mountain bikes the lead guy checked up. Well you know what happens after that. Second and third rider clipped wheels and fell. I while trying to avoid the crash hit one of the crashing bikes and slammed against the wall cutting and scraping my right forearm and elbow. So because of their stupidity and arrogance I had a pleasurable 12 mile ride back to my truck all the while bleeding and hurting.

Sorry Britt. Long 12 miles, but better than an ambulance ride. Hope you
heal soon and don't have lingering pain. BTW, my wife frowns on any two
wheel bike for me. Be careful out there.

    Out the door! *insane laughter*

I've been feeling completely and utterly pent up. When Jens was on vacation, it was so hot that more than 15 minutes on my trike would have had me retching and fainting from the heat. Jens goes back to work and the weather turns GLORIOUS (70-75 F).... but Loke starts limping and he's been howling fit to raise the dead if he remotely thinks I'm cycling without him. So, I've been trapped while waiting for him to heal as Jens is back to working long days leaving little to no daylight to ride in.

Today, Jens worked from home! As soon as 9:30 rolled around, I bolted out the door for a ride, planning to end up downtown at some point where I could visit the American food store.

Took a long loop around the fringes of Uppsala before cutting in toward the city forest. Toodled through there before doing the fun coast at about 20 mph toward the city centre. Stopped for ice cream and fed the ducks bits of my waffle cone at the river. Picked up a few b-day goodies (was yesterday) at the American food store. Arrived home with the first sprinkles of rain and 12.5-ish miles under my wheels.

I'm feeling much better. Maybe I should go for another ride tomorrow. Maybe head out to Börje Church to pick apples!

    Terii
