I bet that one picture is of the same group that I saw pass by the shop. They were all waving and smiling and shouting at me as they passed by. interesting.

First non-rainy weather we've had in about 5 days appeared today! Took Loke out at around 8 am, under gray skies with broken, clumpy clouds. Just cool enough I decided to pull on an extra pair of thermals.

I took a ride out toward Jens' parents' place sometime last week to drop something off, only to have forgotten it. On that ride, I stopped at a burial ground used as a 4-H club pasture land to collect a runestone. It turns out I passed within 6 feet of another runestone, but didn't recognise it among the all the other tumbled stones on the hill. So, I decided I'd repeat the ride to 'collect' that stone as well as try to chase down a few others.

As we set out, it was nice that there was no rain, but for a change, very little wind! Very nice after days and days of tree lashing 15-25 mph breezes(gales, zephyrs..)

Loke ran strong, but limped quite a bit. In the spirit of giving him a high quality of life rather than a dreary quantity of it, we just slowed down and continued on.

I found the runestone, but another still eluded me. At Vaksala church, I found the two pieces of another runestone I'd missed. The church looked tightly closed, but I decided to try the door. Amazingly, it was unlocked! That put two more runestones in my reach as well as the interior of a pretty church. It was sad to see how faded the murals were. They must have been stunning in their glory days.

The last half of the ride, the clouds began to roll back and the SUN streamed down. Started to warm up rather quickly. Loke and I came back home with somewhere around 8.5 miles. At least it worked off a little of the Southern fried shrimp, hushpuppies and cheddar bay biscuits we had last night! :yes9:

Now to work on photos and try to CRAM them into a blog of a local ride. :tongue9:

    June 1st - Take 2!

Went for another ride. This was to swing by the American Food Store, but I took a very round-about way. Turned a 3-ish mile trip into a 10.(something). Just about 20 miles for the day!

Loke didn't go with me this time. He needs to rest up his hips and knee for June 4th!

Unless of course, the trike's gears completely crap out. They need adjusting, but I have a sinking feeling that if I touch them, the Sprint will be unridable for Wednesday. While annoying and at times inconvenient, I can manage with them as they are. Sleeping dogs and all that.

Yesterday's pair of rides blogged. The first half of the rambling post has photos of scenery, runestones and the inside of a church. The second half just chatter about the later ride in the afternoon with the occasional off-subject babble.

Now to get busy readying things for the trip!

My morning rides are getting chilly now, its quite difficult to handle when you are not fully well. Temperature down below 6 C [ 42 F ] .
The afternoons are Glorious though. Lovely warm sunshine with gentle cool breeze - just why I love Autumn [ fall ] .

Got out again today. Did my 20 mile lunch ride. Great day. Cloudy 77 degrees. Legs balked a bit from lack of use, but made it. Plan to go out again tomorrow.

Starting to ramp up the miles a bit. 62 flat miles on the Venom last Saturday and with Velocity wheels all around actually rode this familiar route faster than when I rode it on the Windcheetah. Not as comfortably but hard for me to imagine being faster on this beast.

Yesterday I rode the Venom up to Pine Mt here in Ga and over and the ridge a couple of time before heading home. Ended up with 40 miles and another positive for the Velocity Wheelset. I hit 42 mph on a steep twisty downhill that even after adding the larger Velocity wheels on the front was still scary. The stiffer back wheel made all the difference. Rock steady on the descent ans smooth as glass.

Serenity thanks again for your help with these wheels!

Yesterday's ride was great. 29-ish miles. I need to download the ride from the Garmin to know exactly. Either way, the longest outing for both Loke and I.

We went down there in bad weather, rain and dense fog the whole way. I had concerns that Wednesday was going to be crap. Still had that worry when I woke up.

Started rolling at about 9:30. Stopped for pick up about 5:45. We took it easy (obviously). The first hour was wet, varying between a fine mist to a light drizzle. It didn't help that for half an hour, it was a 2% downgrade, so I didn't pedal. The only things that got a work out for it were my hands. Predictably, I got chilled during that part of the ride.

After that first hour, we managed to avoid the following drizzles and rains. We'd be going along on dry and suddenly a quarter mile or longer of the path would be wet. Never quite saw full sunlight though a few tiny glimpses of blue did peek from between the clouds. I didn't mind the cool and lack of sun though. It was good for Loke.

Took lots of pictures and will now start work on the full post with said photos. Might take me a couple days though!

    Terii,

Are you posting your miles on Bike Journal? It doesn't look like it to me.

Off and on. Just disheartening with '8 miles this week' or '4 miles of the River Loop AGAIN' kind of thing. I need to update it from my Garmin Trainer software before it decides to eat the data... again. :rolleyes9:

I already did enter yesterday's 28+ miles since it was a decent distance AND a great day! :yes9:

    Non-believer

I'm a non-believer in all of that long distance high speed stuff. I believe in a
ride or walk every day for health reasons only. I'm not impressed with long
fast grueling miles. They are non-accumulative and may produce inflammation. OK, with all that said, what do I believe in? I believe in a
mostly vegan low inflammation Dr Weil type diet and a walk or ride every
day. That's 365 rides or walks a year taken 1 day at a time. Let me
add fun to that formula with a smiling face. A fun ride is a 5-10 mile ride
in an hour or a 3-4 mile walk. Now why do I think this way. At my 75
years most of my old friends are gone. Some that are still here are
having arteries unclogged by surgery. The good news is, my formula
will unclog clogged arteries. Next week I'll be back in the ride. Walking
project this week. Love you all, you are nice people.

Yeah, right... Just when you think he's gonna toddle along at 8mph for an hour, he runs off and leaves you in the dust for a 50 mile ride at +15mph. Mark my word, he will embarrass you once you blink.
