Im forming up my recumbent seat for my Bent Cycle and Need some advice regarding ... Headrests , neck support , Head support.
    -
I am leaning the seat back about 32 degrees and it seems obvious that the head needs support to be able to see the road ahead , but I am concerned that if I rest my head against a rest all the time while riding that it will make my neck sore.
Is this what people find - or do you get used to it or have No problems ?

If the head rest absorbs the much of the bumps it is not an issue. I've seen some homemade head rests which use metal bolted onto the frame and a foam noodle as the rest. I think that would hurt your head!!

I ride a Strada and the best thing I did to it was add a head rest. Now my neck and shoulders are relaxed not tense as before. I have absolutely no problem with bumps but I ride paved roads only with this bike.

I bought the ADEM headrest. It is expensive, but the rest support is a flexible plastic that does a great job of acting like a shock absorber.

Thanks Jon, I should mention that the seat I am endeavouring to make is a Wooden slat seat [ you have probably seen them - they have shaped wooden sides with many wood dowels across ]
The problem is that they have no padding - but they are light :laugh9:
From your experience - I had better stop the seat before the neck and put a shock absorbing heat rest up top.

[ note - must get Supporter Status - and post pics ] I am building the mock up with ply and Polystyrene blocks to establish shape.
Its funny how static lumbar support appears different to what I am riding at present. I suspect that when Riding - a thick lumbar support may irritate back muscles. This may end up being a lot of trial and error to get the best shape.

+ one more for ADEM. Have one on the V3 and it does beat my homemade pipe and noodle in the Tango.

I notice that this one has wood right up to head support but I will not be doing that , so glad I got the advice from here.!:yes9:

Imagine going to all the trouble of making this wooden seat and then find it too uncomfortable to ride for any distance.
